Undertaken by Sinomach subsidiary China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), a lithium carbonate plant will be built in the Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flat. The plant, part of Bolivia's efforts to develop its lithium resources, is designed to produce 15,000 tons of lithium carbonate per year for use in batteries.
The project will promote local employment and improve the construction ability and technical level of local workers, bringing social and economic benefits to the country, according to Xinhua, China's state news agency.
